CHEATERS WELCOME

romantic comedy

Inspired by Georges Feydeau’s classic plays, CHEATERS WELCOME reimagines a whirlwind of love and deception in a contemporary setting. Deeply in love, Lucy and Valentin find their relationship pushed to its limits over the course of two chaotic days, driven by misunderstandings and manipulation.

With a vibrant ensemble of eccentric characters and tangled affairs, the film playfully explores desire, fidelity, revenge, and forgiveness—with both humor and heart.

When I read the original play it struck me that this could be something like A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM where the magical forest is replaced by the urban jungle and within it a hotel. Our task was to approach the material with respect but also with a childlike delight and with screenwriter Márton Bárány’s brilliant dusting off of the nearly 120-year-old play I think we’ve got a good start.

Dorottya Helmeczy

Cheaters welcome is only seemingly a comedy because there’s only always someone who suffers from infidelity and jealousy. Some are left, some are unloved, but some find validation in their relationships. Beyond entertaining the audience, this film carries an important message: emotions and desires often conceal the deepest truths. The modern era setting places every couple’s story in its proper context – a bit like LOVE ACTUALLY. We don’t just play around with these stories, we show the ending of each one. Dénes Orosz had a keen eye for the characters and shaped a dramatic arc for each. The film is new, yet the genre is a true classic: a popcorn therapy – entertaining, stress-relieving and bringing people together.

Cast

LUCY – The friendly, loyal, skeptical, and impulsive wife.

László HEVESI

A devoted husband torn between pressure and principle. Easily swayed and eager to avoid conflict, he almost loses his way—until his conscience ultimately pulls him back to what’s right.

PETE – The arrogant and womanizing other husband.

CLAUDIA – The wife who is deeply hurt.

Erika SZABÓ

A deeply family-oriented woman whose love is shadowed by mistrust and fear of betrayal. When hurt, her pain hardens into determination—and if she’s wronged, her quiet resolve turns into a powerful need for revenge.
